What happened next........?

Assignment Bootcamp with Lilla Rogers has been great fun so far. I've learn't a huge amount about Illustrator, Photoshop, colour and trends.

March's assignment brief was "Jelly" - yes, the wibbly wobbly stuff.

There was so much fun to be had with this brief - I did so many drawings and watercolour paintings.

The final piece took a remarkably silly turn  featuring Jelly trees in a jelly forest!! - don't ask me how I got there! However, I was pleased with what I'd created because it retained a hand drawn feel and a fun, playful style.

So, I'd made my Jelly designs, .... what next?

That's when I discovered Society 6

Look what you can make!!!!!

....and this!!!!

Jelly Tree Baby Grow
Society 6 turns your designs into products and sells them from their site.

There is a huge array of different items to choose from including mugs, prints, cushions, phone covers and even shower curtains. (I quite fancy a Jelly Tree shower curtain myself!)

As an artist it's great to be able to see your designs on a real product.
If you haven't tried it already, I'd certainly recommend it.

Lilla Rogers Assignment Bootcamp

Lilla Rogers Assignment Bootcamp is an online course which I've enrolled on.
Recently,  I've wanted to improve my Photoshop and Illustrator skills and this course is giving me lots of practise!

Each month, Lilla sets a mini and a main assignment. These assignments are briefs to design a surface pattern to fit a particular market.

Lilla Rogers runs a surface design agency, so the briefs she sets are examples of what her clients might ask for.  She is also able to direct you to specific colour palettes which are on trend.

This months assignment was Jelly and this is what I've come up with so far:

This one was done using Illustrator (Image tracing practise)

This is version two:

I love the silliness of this one - imagine.... Jelly trees!- anyway - that's just how my mind works!!:)

5th February 2014
Portfolio News.

I thought I'd take a moment to update you with how my children's book portfolio is developing.
I'm really happy to say that I'm nearly ready to launch it into the big wide world - a scary prospect!!

I had a bit of an epiphany moment in December when I realised I needed to plan  how I was going to forge ahead and finish my portfolio. A plan was needed, not one in my head but a physical one that I could  tick the boxes on.  So I wrote one. I mapped out nearly everyday for six months....yes, I know what you're thinking - and I agree, I am  - but it worked it really worked!!

I've managed to do 10 new pieces in just a few weeks and here they are.
It would be nice to know what you think.
